”I have used a great number of telescopes; some are good, some mediocre and some bad. To me the Sky-Watcher range of instruments are very good indeed, and suited to amateurs of all kinds – and they are not priced out of the market! Excellent value.
Use them and enjoy them.“
Sir Patrick Moore CBE FRS

SKY-WATCHER ASTRONOMICAL TELESCOPES
Ade Ashford Says...
"Having tested and reviewed a wide range of astronomical telescopes over the last couple of decades, for me there's one manufacturer that's risen above the rest in terms of delivering a coherent range of uncompromising, well-conceived designs, embodying consistently good optics and sensibly engineered mounts at very competitive prices — that's Sky-Watcher!!" The compact Sky-Watcher STARTRAVEL series are two-element, air-spaced, multi-coated objective, achromatic refractors, and are well proven performers for ‘Rich-Field’ views of star fields, clusters, nebulae, bright galaxies, planets, the Moon and, the Sun (with correct safety filtering!), as well as giving excellent terrestrial views. These wide-field, short-tube telescopes are also highly portable. They also are popular for use as guide scopes on larger telescopes. All models excel as fixed aperture lenses for both Astrophotography and terrestrial photography. Their “fast" focal ratios combined with today’s high-speed films make them useful for capturing lunar and solar eclipses as well as nature photographs. Tube material: Aluminium.
Introduction
The Auto-Tracking telescope is an evolutionary alt-azimuth mount that allows automatic tracking of celestial objects without complicated add-ons. It can be used not only for astronomy but for terrestrial applications as well. It is fast to set-up and very simple and easy to use. Highly recommended for the first-time buyer.
"For the ultimate in rugged travel 'scopes, a short focal ratio refractor is hard to beat. They hold collimation (optical alignment) well even under harsh treatment. The Sky-Watcher STARTRAVEL range offers good value for money and specifications that lend themselves well to terrestrial bird watching and wide-angle, deep-sky celestial viewing as well as terrestrial and astrophotography." Ade Ashford BSc
Specification and optics same as Startravel-80 but comes with 45º Erect Image Diagonal, and supplied without Equatorial Mount and Tripod. Complete with tube rings.
“Its design is that of a traditional astronomical telescope…but its also suitable for watching wildlife. Focusing was with the traditional rack and pinion assembly, which was smooth to use. The lowest power eyepiece (25mm) provided a x16 magnification, which gave an estimated field of view of 2.5 degrees. Stars remained sharp across 75% of the view. With this eyepiece, widefield views were particularly good; open cluster M44 was a delight. These wide views did seem to make the background sky lighter, but we could still make out the brighter Messier objects and even spotted the galaxy NGC 2903 in Leo. At higher magnifications the galaxy group of M65/M66 and NGC 3628 could be seen, and by adding the Barlow lens to the 10mm eyepiece we split Algieba and Castor… Saturn was also clear, with Tian and Rhea visible. Overall score 87%” BBC Sky At Night Magazine
STARTRAVEL-102 SynScan™ AZ GOTO 102mm (4") f/500 cOMPUTERISED REFRACTOR
An ideal instrument for the wide-field observation of Deep-Sky objects, such as Nebulae, Star Fields & Clusters and Galaxies. A useful telescope for astrophotography and also for daytime terrestrial use.
"A compact and versatile photo-visual refractor equally at home delivering wide-field, deep-sky views or exploring terrestrial vistas" Ade Ashford, www.scopetest.com
"We quickly set up and aligned the scope with the help of the instructions....The SynScan Go-To computer efficiently located all the objects we set it to, putting them close to the centre of the wide-field view. The quality of the view was good and the light-grasp of the 4-inch main objective lens gave us good views of all types of object, from galaxies such as M31 to nebulae such as the Dumbell Nebula and star clusters like the Pleiades. Overall, this is a nice package that does the job." BBC Sky At Night Magazine (Nov 2009)
