Review of Skymax-127 OTA
“…Optically, all the lenses are multicoated and the internal baffles had no shiny surfaces that could cause reflections of bright objects…The Focuser was quite smooth with very little image shift…The field was sharp across 80 percent of the view…We were pleased with the quality of the view even when pushing the telescope to higher magnifications…Mars and Saturn bore high magnifications well…The rings of Saturn appeared sharply defined…Turning to the Moon, it was a revelation through the Skymax…This telescope certainly does a good job on the more detailed Solar System objects…In the deep sky, the Skymax performed well on everything to galaxies to nebulae”

“The Quantum-7.1 binos look impressive, with a classy champagne body and an air of quality about the finish and workmanship….Once locked in place, the mount held the binoculars firmly….The views confirmed the good optical quality, with the star Vega sharp, as it moved across the central 65% of the field, trailing off gradually towards the edges. Wide double stars stood out well too, especially Albireo. We then viewed open clusters and large-scale objects such as the Andromeda galaxy, which showed good detail….Jupiter had bands across it and the Moon exhibited crisp detail”

45° Angled Viewing, with U-Fork Mount) OBSERVATION BINOCULAR

Top-quality waterproof, nitrogen-filled observation binocular with individual helical eyepiece focusing, designed for medium-to-long-range terrestrial and astronomical observations. Incorporating oversized BAK-4 prisms and a fully broadband multi-coated optical system. Top quality triplet objective lenses provide semi-apochromatic optical performance. Eyepieces are angled at 45°, offering excellent versatility for both terrestrial and astronomical viewing. The eyepieces can also be removed, and replaced with many standard 1.25” astronomical eyepieces for added versatility. The U-Fork mount is specially designed for astronomical use, allowing the binocular to be angled upwards for use at high altitudes approaching the zenith. Features built-in lens hoods, finderscope shoe and carrying handle. High quality precision all-metal construction. Supplied with heavy-duty hardwood tripod. Binocular supplied in foam-lined storage/carrying case
“The overall finish of the Quantum-7.4’s seemed to be of a better standard, with all surfaces exuding quality….A hardwood tripod and U-fork mount, which did the job perfectly, made observations at the zenith very comfortable, with the 45° angled view….There wasn’t as much trailing off of image quality towards the edges….Stars really filled the field of view and we felt like we were falling through the sky. This was matched by views of the Moon that were incredibly detailed….Visually the Quantum-7.4’s seemed to have the edge on all the others….The sky background appeared to be the darkest of the four on test, with better contrast, so deep-sky objects like faint nebulae stood out slightly better. Indeed the nebula M17 displayed a mottled surface and was a wonderful smudge in the sky….They were a real delight to use”

“We took five, two-minute exposures of the Pleiades & Andromeda galaxy which were then stacked and image-enhanced using K3CCD tools. They gave a tremendous amount of detail – in fact they were the best images of these objects I have ever taken…”The view was pin-sharp across 85 percent with the 20mm lens and there was no apparent colour fringing at all around the stars”…Overall the refractor performed well on all tasks. It would make a top quality addition to any astronomers scope collection!
